Lee's Summit Road Project
Show All Answers
1.
Why Lee's Summit Road?
Lee's Summit Road dates back to a cowpath in the 1800's. The last time work was done on this section of road was the bridge built in the 1950's. It does not meet modern standards of safety or road design and doesn't serve the traffic patterns and population of the area. It also needs to serve as an alternate route for I-470 when there is backup traffic.
2.
Will The Road Be In The Same Location?
The project boundaries are 40 Hwy to the north to just south of Anderson Road. The north 2/3 will follow basically the same alignment, widening the road on both sides.
On the south 1/3, the road will shift to the east to allow the new bridge to be built on the east side of the existing bridge. This way the existing bridge will remain in service during construction.
3.
Are There Provisions For Pedestrians & Bicyclists?
The new road will provide a five foot bike lane on each side of the road, an eight foot multi-use path on the east side of the road, and a five foot sidewalk on the west side of the road.
4.
What About The Existing Bridge?
The existing bridge no longer meets the needs of the area. It will be destroyed once the new bridge is built to replace it.
5.
Why 3 Lanes?
Traffic studies done in 2010 indicated that three lanes would be necessary to provide the best service to the area through 2040.
6.
Which Section Is Jackson County Building?
The Jackson County portion of the Lee's Summit Road construction begins about 1300 feet south of Anderson Road and ends at 48th St Terrace.
