The Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence will close at 3 p.m. Thursday and be closed Friday, August 30 through Monday, Sept. 2 because of the SantaCaliGon Festival in downtown Independence.
Jackson County Offices will be closed September 2 in observance of Labor Day.
8 – 11 a.m: Open to previously scheduled appointments, seniors, & physically disabled individuals. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m: Open to scheduled appointments and walk-ins as time permits. Schedule an appointment through Qless or by coming into the office.

Celebrating six years of Walktober!!! Walk, ride or run a different trail each Sunday in October. The month of October is ideal for exercising outside ~ the temperatures are cool and the colors are spectacular. Walktober makes the most of this great season by inviting participants on a tour of autumn’s most vibrant landscapes and inspiring everyone to make movement a priority!! Commemorative Walktober buttons, designed by artist Alex Hamil, for the first 200 participants at each location. Attend all four events and collect all four designs!
Walktober 2024 begins with Jerry Smith Park October 6, then on to Fort Osage National Historic Landmark, Penn Valley Park and finally Longview Lake Park. Plein Air Quick Paint Contests are planned for Jerry Smith Park, Fort Osage and Penn Valley Park.
All events are free and open to the public.
