Clarification regarding group events during State of Emergency

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A prior press release included a typographical error that has created some confusion regarding exceptions to the County’s current ban on group events. The current prohibition on group events is as follows:

“Group Event” means any gathering of 10 or more people at any restaurant, tavern, professional, social, cultural, entertainment, or other special event where people are not separated by physical space of at least six feet.

The temporary prohibition of "Group Events" does not apply to the day-to-day operation of organizations such as: healthcare and long-term care facilities, grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations or businesses with limited to no in-person contact with the public.

In certain exceptional circumstances, the County’s Director of Health is authorized to grant event-specific exceptions. Exceptions will only be granted in extraordinary circumstances, if the Director of Health determines sufficient mitigation plans for infectious disease are in place. The County apologizes for any confusion this may have caused our community as we are diligently working to quickly adapt to the changes surrounding the COVID-19 epidemic.

The Jackson County Health Department has issued guidance to help answer questions about the County’s executive order. This guidance, including some frequently asked questions, can be found by visiting www.jacohd.org/coronavirus. Simply click on “Jackson County COVID-10 Executive Order Guidance” under resources. The health department will continuously update the information as the situation develops.
