Legislative Chair and Vice Chair selected

For the second year Theresa Cass Galvin has been selected by her peers as the Legislative Chair. Dan Tarwater III will once again serve as Vice Chair.

“In 2019 my colleagues voted me in to serve as Chairman of the Jackson County Legislature, today they have asked that I continue to serve as the Chairman for 2020,” Galvin said. “I am both honored and humbled to have the trust and support of my colleagues.”

“We accomplished a lot in 2019. To move the county forward we looked at the way we were doing business and started working closely with the departments to address the needs of the county. This led to several discussions and at the end we were able to bring in experts that will help us move this county forward,” she said.

The legislature awarded a number of contracts in 2019. Among them was a contract for an Owner’s Representative for the County’s detention center to JCDC Partner, LLC of Kansas City.

“This is a huge step in the right direction for building a detention facility that best fits our needs,” she said.

Galvin said, “I think I heard cheers around the courthouse when we adopted the resolution to enter into a contract for the restoration and modernization of the Jackson County downtown elevators with Schindler. This is a much-needed improvement for the general public and the employees at Jackson County.”

A contract was also awarded to Rand Construction Company for the design-build of electrical and plumbing systems for the downtown courthouse.

The contract to refurbish and sell approximately 3,000 Chief’s stadium seats went to Schneider Industries. “The proceeds will go towards making our already amazing parks ADA compliant so they can truly be enjoyed by our entire community,” she said.

Stifel Investments Services was contracted to be the County’s Financial Adviser.

The 2020 Budget was adopted December 16.  “I’m proud to share that the 2020 budget truly addresses the needs of the departments. An amendment provides for much needed positions such as, a Contract Administrator in Purchasing, an HR Analyst and a Communication Marketing Coordinator to name a few,” she said.

“Something that has been important to me since I took office five years ago was to have a wage analysis completed. That was done in 2019 and our associates, will start to see the results of that study this year,” Galvin said. “I am so excited to watch the work we started in 2019 continue in 2020.”
