Jackson County Executive statement on Ordinance 5185
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. has chosen not to sign, nor veto, Ordinance 5185 relating to the County’s pension system. As such, the legislation will go into effect without his signature per the Jackson County Charter, Article II Section 12.
The legislation, opposed by the County Executive, makes changes to the County’s pension system that would allow certain county retirees to return to full-time employment while simultaneously drawing a pension from the County. The Jackson County Pension Board unanimously opposed the proposal, however, it passed on a 6-3 vote of the Jackson County Legislature on Monday, December 3. Six votes, or a super-majority, is required to override a veto.
Attached, please see the County Executive’s statement regarding his decision, as well as Executive Order 18-22, which aims to limit potential abuse of the new pension provisions.
