Mike Norman is one of those associates who consistently performs above and beyond expectations. He does exceptional things for the Parks + Rec Department every day.
Since Mike Norman joined the team of PGA Professionals at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course in 2014, he has increased tournament and league play by 15 percent. Many golfers followed him to Fred Arbanas, bringing a whole new group of golf enthusiasts to the course.
Parks + Rec Director Michele Newman said, “His knowledge of the game, ability to teach the skills of the game to all levels of play and exceptional customer service are just a few of the reasons why Kansas City golfers are so loyal to Mike.”
He coordinates and works every tournament event, guaranteeing a great competition for all, and has developed strong relationships with the members of each league, all of whom are crucial for long-term success.
Mike is always thinking of new ways to enhance our patron experience, Newman said. “He is growing our golf club ‘re-grip’ program, flawlessly manages daily tee times, bookings for tournaments and annual events and works closely with our rep from Golf Now to continually maximize the Golf Tee Sheet. It's those details that not only create a great experience for our golfers, but eases the job for his fellow pros and associates in the Pro Shop.”
Most recently, Mike successfully managed the scheduling for more than 220 teams competing in the 2018 Men's & Women's Kansas City Corporate Challenge event that ran over three months from April through June.
“Mike is not only a standout here at the golf course but Mike is a standout across the board with the department. If there is a special event Mike Norman is there,” Newman said.
Due to an injury, the assistant manager of the Longview Marina has been off work for several weeks and the seasonal workers have all gone back to school leaving only the manager on duty to work seven days a week.
“What does Mike do? He joins Bob McMillin and a group of folks to go over there. When he is not working at the golf course, he is working over at the marina to keep it going. That’s being a stand out that’s being a consummate professional,” she said.
