KANSAS CITY, MO – Jackson County Executive Michael D. Sanders will be joined by former County Legislator and State Senator Victor Callahan (D-District 11) and others to announce a new tax payment program for senior citizens in Jackson County at 1:30 pm Friday, April 4, 2008.
Sanders recently appointed an Assessment Review Commission to examine the assessment and appraisal process in Jackson County, with the goal of ensuring that the system of assessment will be fair for everyone in our community, particularly seniors and families. The first public forum of this Review Commission will be Tuesday, May 6. This public meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m., will be held at the Home Builders Association offices at 600 East 103rd Street in Kansas City, Missouri.
As a candidate and as County Executive, Sanders has made the issue of County property assessment and reforming the process a key goal of his administration.
Senator Callahan has been concerned about property tax assessment and collections for some time, especially the impact they have on Senior Citizens.
Today both elected officials will present a plan that they believe will provide assistance and help to Senior Citizens throughout Jackson County. This announcement will be made at 1:30 today on the second floor of the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City, Missouri.
