The Board of Equalization is seeking licensed attorneys-at-law, licensed realtors and state-certified real estate appraisers to serve as Hearing Officers. Qualified candidates must have knowledge and experience with commercial real property, residential real property and/or personal property to perform specialized duties. Candidates must be a current resident of Jackson County. Applicants must complete an application to be considered and provide a resume with current active license.
The Board of Equalization permanent members are appointed by the County Executive. All Hearing Officers are independent contractors who report directly to the Board of Equalization.
Scope: Hearing Officers will listen to arguments presented by the Taxpayer/Taxpayer Representative and the Assessors and will review any applicable documentation provided regarding the current assessment. After both sides have presented their arguments, the Hearing Officer will make a recommendation to the Board. The Board will make the final decision. This is a seasonal position starting in July 2021 and anticipated through September 2021. Most hearings are scheduled Tuesday through Friday based on the number of hearings and the applicants’ availability. The rate of pay is $300.00 for a full day. Applicants must provide a copy of their active license and proof that all county taxes are current.
