The Bash is back. For the second year, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the Back to School Bash to assist families and students getting ready for a successful school year.
This year the Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Love Fund For Children in hopes of giving away school supplies and backpacks to more than 5,000 K-5 students in the Kansas City area. The event is August 10 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence. It is free and open to everyone.
Getting a student “back to school ready” is a challenge for nearly every family, but it’s even more difficult for families facing uncertainty. Facing poverty, underemployment or unexpected life changes means school supplies often fall towards the bottom of necessity spending.
This year’s event will focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and will also include immunizations for middle and high school students, an agency fair, entertainment and much more.
An estimated 2,000 people attended last year’s event with 800 backpacks handed out.
Jackson County associates have been collecting school supplies during the month of July which, along with proceeds from the Jeans Day Program, will go towards the Back to School Bash.
