Jackson County Records Center celebrates 30 years

Jackson County will be celebrating its Records Center’s 30th Anniversary May 30, 2026.
In 1996 the decision was made to have all county records moved to a centralized climate-controlled facility. A former limestone mine was chosen within the LINK-Space Center’s Underground Industrial Complex in Independence.

Jackson County was major jumping off point for western migration

Throughout the 19th century settlers emigrating west built overland trails as they moved their homes further west via routes such as the Oregon, California, Mormon and Santa Fe trails. The principal jumping-off point for the three western trails was Independence, Missouri.

Jackson County Parks + Rec Beaches open Memorial Weekend

Memorial Day is coming up so it’s time to take a swim, have a ball, build a sandcastle and catch some rays at one of Jackson County Parks + Rec’s two beaches.
Longview Lake Beach and Blue Springs Lake Beach will open Saturday, May 23 and be open daily through Labor Day.
