|Jackson County Judge Robert Schieber sentenced a 27-year-old woman today (July 25) to 10 years in prison for providing false testimony in an attempt to help convicted murderer Diamond Blair during his February 2013 trial.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker asked the court to sentence Daquetta D. Davis, 27, of Portageville, Mo., to 10-year sentences on each of two counts of perjury related to her testimony in Blair’s trial. > MORE
Gladstone residents today pleaded guilty to charges related to voter fraud in the Aug. 3, 2010, primary election in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today. John C. Tony L Putman, 19, was sentenced today by a Jackson County judge to life in prison for the rape of an 84-year-old woman in July 2012, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today. A new study compiled by the KC No Violence Alliance's research partners at the University of Missouri-Kansas City's Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology sets the costs of violent crime, including homicide. A single murder costs $1.3 million in tangible costs, including medical expenses, lost earnings, as well as police, prosecution and corrections costs. When you add in intangible costs, the pain, suffering and other costs associated with injuries, about $8.4 million, the total is $8.98 million. > MORE
