Whitney Miller brings her tax law experience to her new position as Director of the Collection Department.
For more than five years, she has served as civil legal counsel for the County Counselor’s Office, managing more than 900 property value appeals to the State Tax Commission, providing legal counsel to determine county-wide tax exemptions, reviewing and negotiating county contracts, among other responsibilities. Her expertise also includes employment law.
“The collection department is a core function of the County and over the years, great strides have been made to improve customer service for taxpayers,” Miller said. “It is my priority to keep that at the forefront of our day-to-day operation and ensure associates have the support and tools they need to succeed. I know how hard they work to serve Jackson County citizens and I’m excited to join a team of proven professionals.”
“It is a department I have worked with fairly extensively during my time in the counselor’s office plus I have always enjoyed working with the department. I am excited for a new challenge and switching over more full time into a tax practice. I am excited to manage the department and to get to know those folks better,” she said.
Miller feels she is the right person for the position because of her work within the department and well as other county departments, “I think I have got, based on my employment background, a good perspective on how to effectively manage a department and work with the people within the department to help them have the tools that they need to be as successful as we can be.”
Miller received her undergraduate degree as well as her law degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
